Australia Post reduces fuel surcharge for some customers
Australia Post has informed its contract customers that its fuel surcharge will decrease by 7.2 percentage points, effective July 1.
According to the company, the adjustment is based on recent changes in fuel-related costs and a stabilisation in fuel prices.
Under the new rate structure, the surcharge for the Australia Post domestic parcel sending contract and StarTrack Courier will decrease from 19.5 per cent to 12.3 per cent.
Also, the surcharge for StarTrack Express and StarTrack Premium will decrease from 30.2 per cent to 23 per cent.
The fuel surcharge is an industry mechanism used to recover fuel costs. This change applies to approximately 17,000 contract or account-managed customers, who represent about 6 per cent of Australia Post’s total business customer base.
Australia Post said the updated rates do not apply to MyPost Business or retail customers.
The announcement comes after the company announced the increase of its fuel surcharge for domestic parcel sending, in a bid to “help recover the recent significant rise in fuel costs”.
In April, Australia Post partnered with Ebay Australia to introduce a new ‘Print in Store’ capability designed to simplify the shipping process for online sellers.
The service is provided at no additional cost and eliminates the requirement for sellers to own a home printer.
