Australia Post launches campaign targeting small e-commerce businesses

Australia Post has launched a marketing campaign, ‘Big Boss Energy’, that provides SMEs with promotional platforms to expand their reach to consumers.

The initiative follows data from the company’s annual report showing that online spending in Australia reached $82.6 billion over the past year.

According to the company, micro and small operations currently account for 88 per cent of the postal service’s total customer base.

The campaign involves converting selected post offices into regional promotional hubs, which will feature in-store events, community engagement activities, and local business showcases.

Gary Starr, Australia Post GM for parcel, post, and e-commerce services, said the program is intended to provide practical opportunities for emerging brands to scale operations and connect with consumers beyond standard parcel delivery services.

“Small businesses are the backbone of communities across Australia and make up the vast majority of our customer base,” said Starr.

“Every day, we help businesses of all sizes reach customers across the country, whether they’re making their first online sale or growing into an established e-commerce brand.”

He said that as Australia’s e-commerce sector continues to grow, the company was always looking at new ways to support businesses beyond delivery.

“Big Boss Energy is about celebrating the ambition of Australian businesses while giving them practical opportunities to build their profile, connect with customers and scale with confidence.”

The promotional strategy uses localised marketing, digital creator content, social media campaigns, and internal point-of-sale displays.

As part of the rollout, the organisation will host a dedicated market event in Melbourne on September 20, designed to enable smaller merchants and side-business operators to showcase their products and reach a broader consumer audience.

In May, Australia Post reduced the fuel surcharge for some customers, based on recent changes in fuel-related costs and a stabilisation in fuel prices.
