Uber seals $21.1 billion takeover of Delivery Hero after days of negotiations
Uber has agreed to acquire Delivery Hero in a deal that values the company at approximately €13.0 billion (AU$21.19 billion), bringing together two of the world’s largest mobility and food delivery platforms.
Under the voluntary public takeover offer, Uber will pay Delivery Hero shareholders €41.50 per share in cash.
The agreement follows Delivery Hero’s disclosure earlier this week that it was in advanced talks with Uber, following market speculation about a possible acquisition.
The acquisition will significantly expand Uber’s global delivery business through Delivery Hero’s portfolio of brands, including Foodpanda, Glovo, Talabat, HungerStation and PedidosYa. The combined business will operate across 99 markets, spanning ride-hailing, food delivery and quick commerce.
“This acquisition and Uber’s planned investment in Germany demonstrate the attractiveness of the European tech ecosystem, and we intend to keep contributing to its growth,” said Niklas Östberg, co-founder and CEO of Delivery Hero.
To facilitate regulatory approval, Delivery Hero will divest operations in 14 overlapping markets to investment firm SSW Partners before the transaction closes.
Uber has also committed to maintaining Delivery Hero’s Berlin headquarters and workforce until at least the end of 2029, while investing €2 billion in Germany by 2031.
The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2027, subject to shareholder acceptance and regulatory approvals.
