Rural start-up named champion online business

NSW-based start-up Spewy has been named Champion Online Business at the inaugural Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Gala Dinner and Awards held in Sydney.

Based in the rural town of Dungog, Spewy has been hailed for its unique and innovative solution to the problem of ‘spew’ often encountered by parents and children. Its waterproof absorbent mat that can hold up to two litres of liquid that children can use when they are sick.

The award also recognises Spewy’s business growth over the past 12 months including expansion into a brand-new warehouse and growth of its in-house team.

“I am incredibly proud and grateful to receive this prestigious award,” Hardie said. “When I started Spewy three years ago, I had no idea that this business would not only be helping thousands of parents across Australia but also contributing to my local community through employment opportunities, allowing parents who are looking to re-enter the workforce with the flexibility of working within school hours.

“As a mum of three myself, I am passionate about helping make parent’s lives that little bit easier when their children are sick, going through toilet training or just need a little extra protection,” Hardie added. “Using the Spewy’s and Bed Mats helps to reduce the amount of washing and cleaning parents have to do, allowing them to focus on the more important things in their lives.

Launched in 2019, Spewy grew from its humble beginnings working from home to now operating from a warehouse, managing a team of staff, launching a new product range and working with a number of international stockists.
