Amazon expands same-day delivery service in Canberra
Amazon Australia has expanded its free same-day delivery service to Prime members residing in the majority of Canberra, making it the third Australian city to receive the logistics option alongside Sydney and Perth.
The service applies to eligible orders exceeding $49. Under the updated delivery schedule, orders for roughly one million product lines placed before 11 am are scheduled for delivery by 10 pm on the same day.
Eligible inventory covers multiple retail categories, including household essentials, electronics, apparel, and books.
According to Matt Benham, country manager for Amazon Australia, the expansion responds to localised consumer demand for faster fulfilment cycles.
“For Prime members in Canberra, we’re now delivering the products they want and need faster than ever, as quickly as the same evening.
“We’re proud to be able to offer such a diverse selection of products available for same-day delivery, so whether you need anything from a new small kitchen appliance, a set of headphones for your commute, or even a present for a last-minute kid’s birthday party, we’ve got you covered,” said Benham.
The logistics adjustment follows the company’s introduction of fresh grocery delivery in more than 50 Canberra suburbs through an ongoing distribution partnership with Harris Farm Markets.
Third-party vendors utilising the Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) program will also see their products integrated into the same-day delivery network automatically, provided their inventory is housed within Amazon’s fulfilment centres.
The service expansion forms part of a broader $1.6 billion investment strategy between 2024 and 2027 to open five new operational sites across Australia, adding 4500 jobs upon completion.
Amazon Australia currently manages eight fulfilment centres and 12 logistics sites nationwide, following the creation of more than 1500 permanent operational roles last year.
