Amazon Australia launches seasonal recruitment drive

Amazon Australia plans to recruit 850 seasonal workers across its national fulfilment centres and logistics sites, gearing up for Prime Day this July.

The seasonal team members will help pick, pack and ship orders for customers across the country during the sales season, including the annual Prime member-exclusive sale event.

Opportunities are now available across sites in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, SA, and WA, with on-site training provided and no prior experience required.

“Over the years, we’ve welcomed many people who have never set foot in a warehouse before. All we’re looking for is enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved,” said Michelle Theophilou, senior HR manager, Amazon Australia.

“For many, what has started as a seasonal role has become the beginning of a long-term career at Amazon,” she added. The company said permanent employees receive benefits including subsidised family health insurance, free life insurance, up to 20 weeks of paid parental leave and an Amazon Prime membership.

Amazon associate Maria Ratai, who began as a seasonal worker in 2019, later accepted a permanent role as an area manager to lead a team of 40 across Amazon’s operational network.

“I came into Amazon with no experience at all – it was meant to be a casual gig while I was studying to be a pastry chef. But the training was so good, and the environment was so supportive that I stayed, and I kept growing,” she said.

Prime Day is Amazon’s annual shopping event for Prime members, featuring discounts on products ranging from everyday essentials to electronics, appliances, books, clothing, toys and homewares.
