Ebay to cull 800 jobs in major restructure

Ebay said on Thursday it is cutting about 800 jobs, or roughly 6 per cent of its full‑time workforce, as the e‑commerce company moves to streamline operations and align staffing with its strategic priorities.

“We are taking steps to reinvest across our business and align our structure with our strategic priorities, which will affect certain roles across our workforce,” the company said. Here are some details:

Ebay will cut about 800 jobs, or 6 per cent of its full-time workforce, as part of a restructuring aimed at aligning staffing with long‑term strategic priorities.

The layoffs follow Ebay’s US$1.2 billion acquisition of Depop, announced last week, as the firm doubles down on secondhand fashion and Gen Z‑focused platforms.

This is the third round of layoffs since 2023. The company cut about 1000 roles (9 per cent) in early 2024, citing labour costs outpacing growth, and about 500 roles (4 per cent) in early 2023, due to a slowdown in consumer spending post-pandemic.
