Wing launches last-mile drone deliveries at Melbourne’s Eastland Shopping Centre
Australian drone delivery service Wing has debuted in Victoria, taking off from Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
In partnership with DoorDash and QIC, Wing will fly from QIC’s Eastland Shopping Centre in Ringwood, Victoria, to help extend the reach of participating stores, supporting local businesses and increasing accessibility to people in 26 suburbs including Ringwood, Ringwood North, Mitcham, Nunawading, Donvale, Park Orchards, and Wantirna South.
The company says drone delivery in the Maroondah City Council and nearby suburbs will be a “faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly” last-mile delivery option.
“Four years ago, we started Australia’s first urban drone delivery service in Southeast Queensland, integrating our delivery drones at major shopping centres in densely populated areas, located alongside the merchants we deliver for,” said Wing spokesperson Jesse Suskin.
“Our customers use drone delivery, for things like a loaf of bread to prepare school lunch, toiletries, or an afternoon treat like coffee or ice cream. We’ve been able to provide delivery that’s safe, fast, and environmentally friendly.”
Residents of the mentioned suburbs can use the service by clicking the ‘drone’ button on the DoorDash app to order from merchants at Eastland Shopping Centre, comprising Gelatissimo, Schnitz, Sushi Hub, and more than 20 others.
