Three key categories tipped to drive Amazon US sales this year
Amazon US is predicted to achieve sales of US$641.3 billion this year, representing an increase of 19.9 per cent, according to a newly released research report which also identifies the three fastest-growing major product categories on the site.
Digital retail consultancy Momentum Commerce forecasts that CDs and vinyls will reach sales of $607.5 million, up 29.6 per cent, the highest growth rate among Amazon US’ physical goods.
Beauty and personal care products came in with the predicted second-highest growth rate of 26 per cent, with sales hitting $36 billion.
Pet supplies sales are estimated to climb 25.3 per cent to $22.6 billion.
Meanwhile, books topped the list of physical goods expected to grow the slowest at 0.9 per cent to $9.1 billion.
Momentum Commerce forecasts video game sales to rise 2.9 per cent to $5.6 billion and handmade products to jump 3 per cent to $606.6 million.
Janitorial and sanitation supplies emerged as the fastest-growing subcategory, rising 174 per cent to $1.6 billion.
Moreover, the company anticipates beverage sales to soar 27.3 per cent to $9 billion and women’s jewellery to be the most stable category at $3.7 billion.
“Amazon’s overall retail growth within the US is driven primarily by the rapid expansion of sales across a number of CPG categories, rather than luxury, apparel, or electronics, and that’s going to continue over the next year,” said Andrew Waber, director of market research at Momentum Commerce.
“US consumers are clearly growing more comfortable and accustomed to purchasing grocery, health, and beauty products from Amazon despite emerging platforms like TikTok Shop focusing on these segments.”
