Instagram names new leader

Following the surprise resignation of Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger last week, the company has announced the promotion of current vice president of product Adam Mosseri to CEO of Instagram.

In the new role, Mosseri (pictured above centre with Systrom and Krieger) will oversee all functions of the business and will recruit a new executive team.

“Since we announced our departure, many people have asked us what we hope for the future of Instagram,” Systrom and Krieger said in a statement announcing the change.

“To us, the most important thing is keeping our community – all of you – front an centre in all that Instagram does. We believe that Adam will hold true to these values and that Instagram will continue to thrive.”

Mosseri noted in a statement posted to his personal Instagram that the impact Systrom and Krieger have had on the business has been “incredible”.

“They built a product people love that brings joy and connection to so many lives,” Mosseri said.

“I’m humbled and excited about the opportunity to now lead the Instagram team. I want to thank them for trusting me to carry forward the values that they have established.”

Last week, Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said that he was looking forward to what Systrom and Krieger will build next.

“Kevin and Mike are extraordinary product leaders and Instagram reflects their combined creative talents,” Zuckerberg said.

“I’ve learned a lot working with them for the past six years and have really enjoyed it. I wish them all the best.”
