Instagram co-founders resign

Instagram co-founders Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom have announced they are resigning from the business.

“Mike and I are grateful for the last eight years at Instagram and six years with the Facebook team,” Systrom said in a statement.

“We’re now ready for our next chapter. We’re planning on leaving Instagram to explore our curiosity and creativity again.”

Systrom notes that building something new requires that the pair step back in order to understand what inspires them.

“That’s what we plan to do,” Systrom said.

According to recode, the move is a result of frustration due to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg’s control over Instagram.

Zuckerberg said that he looked forward to seeing what the pair will build next.

“Kevin and Mike are extraordinary product leaders and Instagram reflects their combined creative talents,” Zuckerberg said.

“I’ve learned a lot working with them for the past six years and have really enjoyed it. I wish them all the best.”

It is not yet clear who will step up to fill the co-founder’s shoes, though The Information has reported Facebook is likely to name Instagram head of product Andrew Mosseri as the company’s new chief executive.
