Gumtree marketplace adds BNPL option

Online resale marketplace Gumtree has partnered with PayPal to launch its first BNPL method – Gumtree Pay through ‘PayPal Pay in 4’ service.

Gumtree Pay, powered by PayPal in 4, allows shoppers to split online payments into four fortnightly instalments interest-free and with no late fees. 

“Gumtree Pay makes it easier for Australians to buy and sell items using their preferred payment methods, while avoiding the hassle of cash,” said Tommy Logtenberg, CEO of Gumtree Australia. “With PayPal being a favourite among Aussies, adding it to our payment options is a huge win for our users.”

The additional feature comes at a time when more than half of Australian BNPL users found PayPal’s payment service helped them ease financial management concerns, according to the company’s research.

“Australians are increasingly choosing second-hand shopping as a smarter, more environmentally friendly option,” said Simon Banks, PayPal Australia’s MD.

“With PayPal Pay in 4 now available on Gumtree’s marketplace, we’re helping buyers manage larger purchases more comfortably, making second-hand shopping not just affordable, but even more accessible.”
