Folkal Eyewear launches a new website for sustainable eyewear

Sydney-based Folkal Eyewear has launched an online marketplace to help customers buy sustainable sunglasses, based on a rating system.
Dubbed ‘Folkal Eyewear Rating System’ the website assesses sunglasses for the type of materials used, lenses, cases, the manufacturing method and end-of-life process for their environmental impact and scores them accordingly.
The company says the world-first ranking system will promote the sustainability credentials of each brand at its product level.
“All the data we’ve seen says eco-friendly frames are set to become one of the biggest fashion trends this year,” said Folkal co-founder, Richard Parker.
“However, with no single, trusted place for shoppers to find and understand what makes eyewear sustainable, we saw an opportunity to offer much-needed transparency and education.”
The launch collection features 300 sunglasses from major brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Kate Spade, Levi’s, Hugo Boss, Smith Optics, Polaroid, Rag & Bone and Havaianas.
The company’s eco-friendly range is supplied by eyewear manufacturer Safilo Australia which is a joint venture partner in the initiative.
