Ebay fined for unlawful sales of Grand Final tickets
Online marketplace Ebay has attracted multiple penalty infringement notices from NSW Fair Trading for breaching ticket-reselling laws.
Under NSW’s Fair Trading Act, it is illegal to resell tickets to the NRL Grand Final and corporations found breaching the law can be fined up to $110,000 while individuals can be fined up to $22,000.
NSW Fair Trading commissioner, Natasha Mann, said the NSW laws require advertisements for the resale of tickets to specify the original cost of the ticket and a resale price that is no more than 10 per cent above the original cost, thus protecting consumers and preventing profiteering.
The regulator actively monitored other platforms where Grand Final tickets may have been re-selling tickets and will take similar actions where necessary. An investigation is ongoing currently.
