Cue launches visual search tool

Cue has become the latest fashion retailer to aid the discovery process with a visual search tool.

Launched last week, Cue’s Style Finder tool allows shoppers to upload saved images from their phone or take a photo of something in real life and search for similar-looking styles at Cue.

Developed in partnership with Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing division of Alibaba Group, the search tool uses machine learning to improve its results and product matches over time.

Asos, The Iconic and Temple & Webster have launched similar visual search tools in recent months, as online retailers look for ways to improve the shopping experience on mobile devices.

Shane Lenton, Cue’s chief information officer, said the growth of mobile commerce was a key reason the retailer launched Style Finder.

“Mobile purchases are our number one source of online revenue, with up to 70 per cent of traffic to our website on mobile devices,” he said.

“Innovation is at the core of everything we do at Cue, so we are always looking at ways to embrace new technologies and improve the customer shopping experience.”

Indeed, Cue recently rolled out shoppable screens, which enable customers to shop an ‘endless aisle’ in-store, click-and-collect and 3-hour ship-from-store delivery.

According to Lenton, the Style Finder tool is a sign of things to come.

“This technology is just the start of what we’re working on at Cue and we’re looking forward to introducing exciting new innovations over the next few months,” he said.
