Catch Live quiz game draws thousands of shoppers

Thousands of Australian consumers participated in Catch Live, an unusual online shopping event hosted by e-commerce company Catch, last week.

Shoppers compete in a quiz game via live streaming video and the Catch mobile app to access steep discounts on products like Apple Airpods.

“Simply watching may not be enough to get your hands on the hottest items,” host Brodie Young, of Quizmania fame, said.

“Viewers may have to use different skills like speed, guessing and general knowledge to unlock the deals. We’ll be almost giving away incredible products, like Apple Airpods – the prices will be unheard of.”

The e-commerce company called the combination of shopping, entertainment and gamification a world first.

“Our aim was to come up with a concept that combined the amazing deals that we are renowned for with an interactive, exciting and new way to shop,” Catch’s head of marketing Ryan Gracie told IRN.

“We also wanted a new way to surprise and delight our customers and to tap into the popularity of social media live stream. So the concept of getting them to play along with live streamed entertainment and games was a perfect fit. Now, they can watch, play and score amazing deals.”

Shoppers can register on the company’s website to be alerted when the next Catch Live event will occur.

The company is also in the process of opening its first bricks-and-mortar pop-up in Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping Centre.

“Our workers are busily constructing the Catch pop up shop as we speak. It’s well on its way and we’re aiming to launch in October,” Gracie said.

“We will definitely be up and running for the busy Christmas trading period, giving shoppers a one-stop-gift-shop for all their family and friends’ presents.”
