Australian Made and eBay partner up to bring Aussie brands to the world

Australian Made and eBay are partnering up to support local manufacturers grow their online business with a dedicated ‘Australian Made on eBay’ hub, which will allow international users access to accredited goods.

The hub will feature products with Australian Made accreditation across a range of categories, including fashion, health, beauty, automotive, and home and garden.

Since mid-April eBay has seen sales of goods made in Australia increase 54 per cent, as Australians increasingly look to support local businesses through the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We’ve seen more Australians come to eBay for the things they need in recent months, from everyday essentials to office furniture,” eBay Australia managing director Tim MacKinnon said.

“Our partnership with Australian Made also offers eBay Australian small and medium businesses the opportunity to be discovered by 174 million global buyers by displaying the renewed Australian Made logo – a mark of trust and quality.”

Australian Made chief executive Ben Lazzaro said the partnership provides the business the opportunity to tap into a large online audience, but also to export to international markets.

Local online sales have grown in leaps and bounds during Covid-19 pandemic, with many forced to self-isolate relying on e-commerce and online delivery to receive goods.

In fact, while online sales fell 1 per cent in May, this followed the most rapid growth of online sales in the NAB’s online retail sales index’s history.

“From our observations, the general trend for online retail is up. In this way, Australian online retail sales closely match those of other key international online retail markets,” Oster said.

And with the return to lockdown conditions present in Melbourne and Victoria, and potentially on the horizon for other states and cities, online sales will likely continue to be increasingly important throughout the remainder of 2020.
