Australia Post sets delivery record over BFCM period

A year-on-year increase of 6.3 per cent saw Australia Post process more than 5.8 million parcels in one day – a new record.

The recent Black Friday and Cyber Monday (BFCM) period saw $1.5 billion spent by consumers. AusPost’s executive GM of parcel, post and e-commerce services, Gary Starr, said it remains the defining point of the retail calendar.

“Our latest quarterly e-commerce report found 50 per cent of shoppers had their sights set on Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, a trend clearly reflected in this record-setting sales period,” he added.

“We anticipate this surge to continue well up until Christmas, and to keep up with the demand, Australia Post has been preparing for another record-breaking delivery season.”

Starr said that AusPost continues to invest in expanding its network, including an electric vehicle fleet, and ‘next-generation’ post offices.

“We are ready to deliver the magic this Christmas,” he said.

This year’s top-performing categories saw 42 per cent growth in athleisure wear, 24.7 per cent in books and stationery, and 18 per cent YoY in women’s fashion.

The AusPost app also experienced a significant rise in engagement over the BFCM period with 14.8 million app visits and 2.7 million customers using Australia’s top-ranked business app, and with parcel tracking remaining the most frequently accessed feature.
