Australia Post introduces extra small parcel option

Australia Post has launched the extra small parcel, its most affordable delivery option, to help small business customers reduce costs.

The new parcel range is available online and in post offices, and is designed for lightweight items such as accessories and cosmetics.

The new designs are a response to customer demand for low-cost shipping options and were trialled by Australia Post earlier this year in the online marketplace sector.

The trial showed strong results, reflecting the strong demand for affordable delivery options among small and micro sellers.

“We’ve listened to our customers, and the Extra Small parcel delivers exactly what they’ve asked for – a cheaper way to send lightweight items, without compromising on speed or reliability,” said Gary Starr, Australia Post executive GM of parcel, post and e-commerce services.

“Some 9.8 million households shopped online in the past year, according to our latest e-commerce report, and as this continues to grow, our customers need delivery options that help them manage their margins and remain competitive,” he said.

Pricing starts at $5.82 for MyPost Business discounted customers, $9.70 for parcel post, and $12.70 for express post in post offices – the lowest price point in Australia Post’s parcel range.

Customers can use either Australia Post packaging with the new extra small padded mailer, which allows for up to 500gm shipped within Australia, or their own packaging, allowing up to 250 grams to be shipped.
