Apple Australia unveils Tap to Pay on iPhone

Local businesses of any size can now accept in-person contactless payments from an iPhone using Apple’s Tap to Pay feature.

The service works with contactless debit and credit cards from leading payment networks, including Eftpos, Mastercard, Visa and American Express.

All transactions made via Tap to Pay are encrypted and processed securely. Businesses can also sign up for service through distribution partners like Telstra.

Jennifer Bailey, VP of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, said small- and medium-sized businesses are at the “heart of the country’s workforce”.

“The convenience of Tap to Pay on iPhone empowers Australian businesses to offer easy, secure, and private contactless payment experiences to their customers, and help them run and grow their business.”

In Australia, Westpac and Tyro Payments now accept Tap to Pay on iPhone for their business customers and will extend to ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions, Stripe, Till Payments and Zeller during the coming months.

Westpac’s CEO of consumer and business banking, Chris de Bruin, said the feature is “a game changer” for tradies, delivery drivers and businesses like hairdressers, mechanics and florists.
