Anticipating record parcel volumes, Australia Post launches massive hiring spree

Expecting record delivery volumes over Christmas, Australia Post is hiring 4000 staff nationwide, the largest recruitment drive in its 210-year history.

Some 2900 casual staff will be employed to handle transport and deliveries around the country while another 300 will be appointed in fixed, full-time and part-time roles in its customer contact centres in Brisbane, along with regional parts of South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland.

The staff are being taken on to process what Australia Post expects will be record volumes of online shopping after strong growth during the Covid-19 crisis.

Another 900 staff will be recruited across the post office network in customer service roles.

“This is a record-breaking recruitment drive for what we expect to be a Christmas unlike any we’ve had before in Australia Post’s history,” said Sue Davies, executive GM people & culture. “In a year that has been incredibly challenging and impacted people in many ways, we are delighted to be inviting people to join us this Christmas as we deliver across the country.”

Davies said existing staff would welcome the support of new hires as mail volumes have been heavy since the pandemic.

“In managing all the necessary Covid-safe requirements, including a reduced workforce in our Melbourne facilities during the recent Stage 4 restrictions, our people have gone over and above to provide critical services for businesses and their customers and delivered for over 8.1 million households who have shopped online between March and August alone,” said Davies.
