Amazon breaks ground on Melbourne robotics fulfilment centre

Amazon Australia says it is on track to open its second Robotics fulfilment centre in Craigieburn, Melbourne in 2025 after construction commenced this week.

The new facility spans 209,000sqm across four levels and sits at Craigieburn Logistics Estate and will house up to 25 million smaller items.

Amazon Australia’s country manager, Janet Menzies, said the retailer is “proud” to be making this significant investment in Victoria.

“The site will also help connect Victorian customers to local small and medium-sized businesses, enhancing delivery outcomes and selection for customers in the state.

“We chose Melbourne as the home of our first fulfilment centre when we launched in Australia in 2017, and the introduction of this state-of-the-art robotics fulfilment centre in the city’s north continues our commitment here.”

Excavation work has commenced on the site and once fully operational, will create 2000 local jobs. The lease for the centre is facilitated by CBRE’s Industrial & Logistics Occupier business.
