Amazon debuts new campus PickUp location

E-commerce giant, Amazon, has announced the opening of its newest “PickUp Location” at California’s UC Berkeley campus.

Enabling students to pick up and return Amazon orders, the 325 sqm space is the fifth campus location of its kind, with others established at Massachusetts, Purdue, Cincinnati and IslaVista universities.

Through an optimised shopping experience, members can receive free same-day pick up for orders placed by noon, and free one-day pick up for orders placed by 10pm.

The Berkley store is fitted out with Kindle e-readers, Fire tablets and Fire Tv devices in a bid to offer an immersive multimedia experience for students and staff, therefore driving new ways of engaging the campus community.

The company said the launch of its latest PickUp location signals wider expansion plans throughout tertiary campuses in the US.

“We’re thrilled to team up with the ASUC Student Union to bring this new experience to UC Berkeley,” said Ripley MacDonald, director, Amazon Student Programs.

“This marks our fifth campus community to offer a staffed pickup location providing students with a convenient and affordable way to get everything they need for university life.”

“We look forward to bringing this experience to even more students and campus communities soon,” MacDonald said.
