Queen Victoria Market goes online

Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Market is driving the 19th century marketplace into the digital age by bringing its fresh produce online.

The famous landmark is seizing the opportunity to better serve its digitally-focused consumers through a new partnership with Melbourne’s online shopping and delivery service, YourGrocer.

From Monday, customers can order fresh produce, such as meat, fish, vegetables and bread, from the market online to be delivered direct to their door.

The Melbourne online grocery start-up is even offering same day delivery on orders placed before 11am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

A number of greengrocers, butchers, fishmongers and delicatessens from the Queen Victoria Market have teamed up with YourGrocer to offer their produce online, with a further 25 traders to come online over the coming months.

“This is a great example of how the Queen Victoria Market is moving with the times and adapting to meet the changing needs of customers and traders,” Queen Victoria Market CEO Stan Liacos said on Monday.

“The new online service will bring the Market’s amazing fresh produce to those who are time poor and may not be able to visit the Market regularly, or at all, to buy groceries, but who still want to enjoy what Victoria’s favourite market has to offer.”

Morgan Ranieri co-founder and CEO of YourGrocer said that the start-up is passionate about supporting other local independent businesses.

“This partnership will give our customers across Melbourne an opportunity to buy more of the fresh, quality ingredients Queen Vic Market is renowned for and provide Vic Market traders with access to a whole new customer base.”

Last month, Queen Victoria Market re-launched String Bean Alley, a collective of 26 independent artisans, with an expanded offering and also introduced more seating areas.

“At all times our focus is to protect the history and heritage that makes the Market unique, while also adapting and responding to the needs of our traders and customers,” Liacos said

“This will ensure we continue to excite and entice customers, so that the Market remains a thriving and diverse marketplace for future generations,” he added.
