Pre-loved runway show at AFW highlights Ebay recommerce push

Ebay Australia has announced its fourth consecutive sponsorship of Australian Fashion Week, the Pre-loved runway show, promoting recommerce fashion on online marketplaces.

In partnership with Vogue Australia, the event offers Australian designers’ archival pieces on the Ebay platform, from well-known local brands such as Aje, Country Road, and Zimmermann.

According to Ebay’s global recommerce report, 92 per cent of Australian buyers prioritise the sustainability of circular goods, and 64 per cent of sellers prefer selling recycled goods online.

“As more Australians discover the joy of shopping pre-loved, brands and resellers have an unprecedented opportunity to fuel industry growth and drive positive change,” said Anne-Marie Cheney, Ebay Australia’s fashion lead.

The report also highlights that last year, nearly 40 per cent of pre-loved fashion purchases on the company’s platform were made with the search term “vintage” being queried more than 1200 times per minute.

While catering to an interactive platform for pre-loved fashion shoppers, the pre-loved runway show sponsored by Ebay offers brands and retailers the opportunity to shift to a remommerce growth model, as a promising market.

“Recommerce is a critical lever in reducing fashion’s footprint, and platforms like Ebay are helping to bring that vision to life,” said Jaana Quaintance-James, CEO of the Australian Fashion Council. “Australian Fashion Week shows what’s possible when innovation meets intent, and it’s this kind of leadership that will shape a more sustainable future for fashion.”

The pre-loved runway show will begin online at the Ebay Pre-Loved Lounge from May 13 to May 16.
