Pilot zero-emission last-mile delivery service launched in Sydney
Delivery platform Shippit and start-up Parcelrun have collaborated to establish Australia’s first zero-emission last-mile delivery pilot activation in Sydney’s CBD.
Additional partners include Bicycle NSW, e-bike providers Zoomo and Lug+Carrie, with Harry vs Larry, Urban Arrow and Carlo Cargo secured via local distributor Dutch Cargo.
The pilot program will put e-bikes from a variety of partners to the test, and all partners will have access to data that will influence performance measures and prospects.
That concept is the result of successful worldwide pilot programs in London and New York that demonstrated that environmental and social benefits may coexist with positive commercial impact.
“Shippit’s decision to join forces with Parcelrun – who share our vision to create a more sustainable, eco-conscious and efficient eCommerce supply chain – was a natural and obvious choice. We’re incredibly excited by the pilot, and its long-term potential,” commented Sandy Bains, head of strategy and operations at Shippit.
According to the brands, the project is consistent with the city’s objective to minimise traffic congestion, cut emissions from delivery vehicles, and promote active communities in Sydney’s CBD.
“Australia is overdue for a trial of this kind. We know electric bikes work for delivery, they are more efficient and cost-effective, this pilot will play a vital role in the future of last-mile delivery in Australia,” Ben Carr, co-founder of Lug+Carrier, added.
