Online gourmet cheese store sales soar 36-fold in Covid’s wake

Gourmet cheese hamper firm Cheese Therapy has seen a 3600 per cent growth in its business with the approach of Father’s Day.

The company, which gained notoriety after providing assistance to a bushfire-ravaged cheesemaker, sold three times more cheese within the month than its total orders last year.

“What it tells us is that more people are shopping online than ever before,” said Cheese Therapy co-founder Sam Penny. “Unsurprisingly, the pandemic is driving rapid change within the e-commerce industry.

“Cheese Therapy is now selling up to 8000 kgs of cheese each month. As a result, we have had to expand our operations to include warehouses in Brisbane and Geelong.”

The firm has partnered with Home Delivery Service, which operates roughly 450 refrigerated vehicles, to ensure it meets demand. The firm delivers about 1500 packages daily to destinations that include some of the most remote towns in Australia.

The firm started out as a home-grown business that has expanded to employ 25 staff across Queensland and Victoria. Penny has stated that social media has been key in the business’ growth.

“We have Australians tasting and enjoying the very best of Aussie cheese and cheesemakers are able to create incredible cheese they wouldn’t normally get the chance to,” said Penny, “and we’re particularly proud that we’ve been able to create jobs and support not only cheesemakers but the dairy industry”.
