NZ’s GrabOne resuscitated after liquidation

E-commerce site GrabOne has launched under new ownership, roughly five months after it went into liquidation.

The online marketplace relaunched on Tuesday after its brand and assets were sold to Wellington-based Paradigm Group.

About 30 local businesses have agreed to participate in the reopening, according to the new owner.

However, the new owners of the company said they will not be able to honour any vouchers or deals offered by the previous owners.

Founded in 2010 by Shane Bradley, GrabOne offers discounted deals on experiences, products, travel, and local services.

The business collapsed into liquidation last October amid funding constraints and immediately ceased operations. Global Retail Marketplace, which bought GrabOne in 2021, reportedly owed $16.5 million at the time.

“When GrabOne went into liquidation, it wasn’t just a platform shutting down. Real merchants lost a channel that was genuinely working for them, and over 350,000 Kiwis lost a way to discover what’s on their doorstep,” Jonty Hodge, CEO of Paradigm Group, commented on the relaunch.

“Now back under Kiwi ownership, GrabOne is being rebuilt to better serve Aotearoa through deep local insight and a focus on sustainable growth,” Hodge added.

Paul Raeburn, head of the new GrabOne, said he would return the business to its core roots, focusing on quality and long-term value.
