Australia Post and Qantas Freight expand fleet capacity
Qantas Freight and Australia Post have expanded their domestic network capacity by introducing new Airbus A321 passenger-to-freighter (A321P2F) aircraft.
Based at Western Sydney International Airport, Qantas said each flight can uplift up to 20,000 Australia Post and StarTrack parcels.
Designed to increase the dedicated freighter network’s capacity by up to 20 per cent, the delivery is the first of three scheduled aircraft arrivals.
The timing coincides with the approach of Black Friday and the peak Christmas delivery period, supporting overnight and next-day shipping services across domestic terminals.
The remaining two aircraft are expected to join the fleet by March next year.
Replacing older BAE 146-300 models, the new aircraft increased freight volume per flight while improving network efficiency and reducing emissions.
The deployment follows the recent 10-year extension of the partnership between Qantas Freight and Australia Post, a relationship that supports the transport of more than 75 million parcels and freight items annually.
“Australia’s freight network plays a critical role in connecting businesses and communities across the country,” said Igor Kwiatkowski at Qantas Freight.
“This investment will help us support Australia Post and respond more effectively as demand for fast overnight deliveries continues to grow.”
“These new aircraft will help us move more parcels across our network and provide additional capacity at a time when online shopping continues to grow, and major retail events are driving record parcel volumes,” said a spokesperson from AusPost.
