Amazon invites public to tour Melbourne fulfilment centre
Amazon Australia has launched in-person tours, allowing visitors to step inside an Amazon fulfilment centre in Melbourne.
The free tours will take place at Amazon’s Ravenhall fulfilment centre, a 37,000sqm site west of Melbourne’s CBD.
Amazon said visitors and families will see the site, which can store up to 600,000 large items, and learn how Amazon orders are stored, packed, and shipped to customers.
“We are excited to be opening our doors in Melbourne and welcoming adults and families into our Ravenhall site,” Wayne Angus, director of Amazon Australia operations, said.
“These tours give Victorians a unique opportunity to see the magic that happens behind the scenes after they click ‘buy now’, and to meet some of the people who make it all happen. We hope the tours will not only provide a fun activity for the local community, but also spark curiosity in children about innovation, technology and logistics.”
Amazon said the tours will be free and will operate twice daily, four days a week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Each tour will last from 60 to 90 minutes.
“I’m always excited to welcome our visitors – from families with young children to curious retirees and everyone in between – because no matter who walks through our doors, they’re amazed by the sheer scale of the site and the way our technology and people work together to get packages out our door and to their doorstep, so quickly,” Am
