Ikea launches online shopping service in Sydney

Sydney residents will be able to buy Billy bookcases and Ektorp sofas online starting tomorrow, as Ikea Australia extends its online shopping service to Australia’s biggest city.

The move follows the successful launch of online shopping in Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory and most recently Queensland.

Starting 1 November, Sydney’s five million residents will be to shop online at ikea.com.au and choose either ‘click and collect’ or ‘home delivery’ at checkout.

The cost for ‘click and collect’ is $40, while home delivery starts at $99.

Customers can pick up online orders from Ikea Tempe, Rhodes and Marsden Park, where the global furniture retailer recently opened a 70,000 square metre distribution centre.

Michael Donath, Ikea Australia’s multichannel manager, said it will make shopping easier and more convenient for time-poor Sydney residents.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring online shopping and ‘click and collect’ to Sydney residents and surrounding suburbs, where shoppers will have easier access to our extensive range of 9,000 quality home furnishing products at the click of a button.

“The service is great value for customers who are looking to create an entirely new look for their home, or for those who simply want to refresh with the changing seasons.

“Ikea is at an exciting and important period of growth in Australia. Opening up online shopping for Sydney-siders is the next phase of our expansion, as we strive to make IKEA more widely available.”
