Edreams pays near $60,000 fine after subscriptions probe

Online travel agency Edreams, registered as Vacaciones Edreams SL, has been ordered to pay $59,400 in penalties after being issued three infringement notices over its subscriptions by the ACCC.

The consumer watchdog said that Edreams has admitted to conduct that could be in contravention of the Australian Consumer Law regarding the pricing claims for its subscription-based memberships.

The ACCC alleged that, with these, consumers were charged subscription fees during a free trial period. Edreams said that, between November 2021 and July 2025, it advertised its prime subscription service membership as free at checkout, on a 15-day trial period. 

But this trial was only free for first-time subscribers.

“However, from May 2024, Edreams conducted eligibility checks after the checkout process and immediately charged consumers identified as ineligible,” the ACCC said.

From January 29, 2025, to July 2025, the ACCC alleged that Edreams published monthly prices for its annual subscription service without also “prominently” displaying the lowest total cost for a 12-month subscription, the minimum term for which consumers had to sign up.

“Businesses should be clear about any eligibility criteria when offering consumers a free trial,” ACCC commissioner Luke Woodward added. “Consumers may have been misled into subscribing to a membership they might not have signed up for, had they known they were ineligible for the free trial. 

“The law requires businesses to be upfront about the total price consumers have to pay for goods or services. Businesses must be clear about the minimum total amount consumers must pay for a subscription.”

Edreams has now committed to providing refunds to eligible consumers, the ACCC said.
