Disgraced online wine club collapses owing $1 million

Wine subscription company The Wine Concierge has collapsed into liquidation amid debts worth nearly $1 million.

The company, which traded as Call Centre Solutions, The Wine Group and Oak Road Estate Wines, owes more than $815,000 to the ATO, $41,387 to Australian Liquor Marketers, $16,388 to Australia Post and thousands more to suppliers and others, the Herald Sun cited documents from administrators.

The collapse comes after a failed attempt to restructure the business.

To avoid liquidation, the company previously agreed to pay $210,000 towards its $950,000 declared debts in monthly instalments over two years. Under this plan, creditors would have received around 20c for every dollar they were owed.

However, the company stopped paying the instalments last month, and a liquidator was appointed last week.

The Wine Concierge is notorious for its past telemarketing tactics, with many customers complaining they were bombarded with nuisance calls and texts from the retailers.

In 2022, the company was fined more than $200,000 for breaches of multiple spam and telemarketing laws.
