Buy from the Bush aims to bring in $500k ahead of Christmas

Online marketplace Buy from the Bush is hoping to bring in half a million in November to help kickstart rural businesses preparing for the holiday season.

Last year the business turned over $600,000 in November, and is hoping shoppers across the country will support bush-born businesses ahead of Christmas.

“While Buy from the Bush was born of drought, it has now seen rural small businesses through a series of crises including fires and a global pandemic,” said founder Grace Brannan.

“One year on, the [marketplace] is now a significant channel to market for rural small and micro businesses, [and] while $600k in one month pre-Christmas is significant, it is perhaps our capacity to foster growth and innovation that excites me the most.”

Buy from the Bush as a way to support businesses struggling with the impacts of the 2019 drought season, and offers “the very best of stylish country store finds in one platform”.

The business started as a social movement on Instagram, using the hashtag #BuyfromtheBush to show off products that were available online, but eventually partnered with PayPal to launch a dedicated online marketplace specialising in rural goods.

“We feel privileged to work with Buy from the Bush and empower this purpose-driven business with the technology needed to help expand the economic opportunities for small businesses in rural and regional Australia,” said PayPal Australia chief executive Eric Lassen.
