Budgy Smuggler sales soar after Netflix exposure
Australian swimwear brand Budgy Smuggler has reported sales soared by 50 per cent after being featured in Netflix’s hit show, Drive to Survive.
The show featured British Formula One driver George Russell who gets gifted a pair of ‘Union Dacks’ Budgy Smugglers from Mercedes Benz teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Since its appearance on the show, the brand has had a number of requests from various teams wanting a ‘uniquely Aussie gift’.
Jimmy Exelby, Budgy Smuggler’s head of partnerships, described the moment as a ‘great endorsement’ of an Australian business.
“There are some major sporting events taking place in the next 12-18 months, and Budgy Smuggler will be at the centre of the action.”
Budgy Smuggler owner, Adam Linforth, said the business has “come a long way” since its inception from a walk-in robe in a Manly apartment.
With its growing success, the brand plans to open an entity in France and a website in the UK.
