Brambles invests in ‘smart’ supply chain with Silicon Valley move

Supply chain logistics company, Brambles, is establishing a new office in Silicon Valley to develop efficiencies in big data and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The global pallets, crates and containers supplier, is setting up a new division called BXB Digital, which will focus on connecting physical objects to the internet to exchange information in real time.

“Today, our assets are essentially dumb assets,” Brambles CEO, Tom Gorman told Fairfax.

“We could move to a space where we get real-time information,” he said.

Brambles has appointed SAP senior vice president, Prasad Srinivasamurthy, to lead the new business as president, BXB Digital. Currently the SVP of customer innovation & Internet of Things at SAP, he will be based at a new Brambles office in Silicon Valley, Northern California, where he will establish the BXB Digital team.

Over his 18-year career at SAP, Srinivasamurthy has had product and innovation responsibilities in data analytics, customer relationship management, supply chain planning and the IoT. His most recent role has focused on building digital solutions in areas including connected retail, consumer insights and energy.

“We are excited to appoint Prasad to this important role. His experience at SAP is a great fit for our business as we look to expand our capability in data analytics and to leverage our unique network position in the supply chains we serve to develop innovative and improved solutions for our customers,” said Gorman.
