Australia Post introduces counterfeit-detection tools for satchels, stamps
Australia Post has introduced a counterfeit-detection tool for stamps and satchels in an effort to address the increasing number of fraudulent postage cases.
The tool will use near-real-time analytics to detect counterfeit postage products. Already, it has spotted hundreds of fraudulent satchels and stamps.
Kevin Zuccato, GM of group security at Australia Post, said the amount of counterfeit postage in circulation is deeply concerning and those who intentionally produce, sell, or use fraudulent packages and stamps risk prosecution.
He said the new tool allows Australia Post to identify and promptly remove fraudulent products online efficiently. “Not only are we scanning for counterfeit stamps, but we’re also watching for fraudulent stamped satchels and prepaid satchels,” said Zuccato.
“The safest way to avoid buying counterfeit products is to purchase stamps and satchels directly from any post office across Australia or via the Australia Post online shop.”
“The Australia Post network is made up of over 4000 post offices, of which 2700 are licensed post offices that operate as their own small business. They rely on Australians buying stamps and satchels from their post offices so they can continue to deliver for their communities.”
By implementing the tool, Australia Post works closely with the Australian Border Force to prevent counterfeit satchels from entering the country.
