Aussies trust ‘a safe place’ for online deliveries over physical handover

The majority of Australian shoppers prefer their deliveries to be left in a safe place instead of requiring them to pick them up at the post office, according to survey.
Budget Direct’s poll of 1000 Australians showed that 54 per cent of them trust that their package will be secure if they instruct the courier to ‘Find a safe place’ while only 28 per cent opted for ‘Return to post office if no one is home.’
About 25 per cent said they like to ‘require a signature’ to ensure the package was delivered safely and another 25 per cent responded they like adding special instructions for delivery, such as putting the package behind a pot.
“Our research goes to show that online shopping is now just a way of life, and it’s great to see 39 per cent of people said they had security cameras installed, while 23 per cent lived in gated communities, so there are some good layers of security built into those responses,” said a Budget Direct spokesperson.
“However, choosing the option to ‘leave in a safe place’ is doing so at your own risk (based on the T&C’s of the delivery provider), and whenever possible, we recommend being present to receive deliveries and/or use other secure delivery options.”
Meanwhile, the survey also showed that clothing and shoes ranked as the top most purchased items online.
The most expensive online purchase for most shoppers costs between $100 and $500.
