Amazon to open second Melbourne fulfilment centre

Amazon Australia is to launch its second Melbourne fulfilment centre (FC) next year in Ravenhall.

The 37,000sqm FC will more than double Amazon’s operational footprint in Victoria, housing about 6 million products from Amazon.com.au.

According to the company, the new Ravenhall FC will join Amazon’s first Australian FC in Dandenong South expanding its operating footprint in Victoria.

“We have invested significantly in our Victorian operations this year to ensure we can continue to improve delivery promises to customers in the state,” said Craig Fuller, director of operations at Amazon Australia. “We are committed to improving selection and delivery speed as demand continues to grow.”

Fuller said Amazon is planning to work with Melton City Council and local community groups to create impactful community programs. The company has also invested in the expansion of its logistics network in Victoria this year, with the opening of two Melbourne Delivery Stations and the launch of Amazon Flex.

“Amazon’s decision to base its new fulfillment centre here makes great business sense and is a massive win for local jobs growth,” said Kelvin Tori, CEO at Melton City. “To have an industry leader and major employer like Amazon invest in the City of Melton demonstrates the outstanding opportunities our city’s location has to major transport routes by rail, sea and air and access to a highly skilled and diverse workforce.”

The new development will create approximately 300 jobs for the local community.

Launched in Australia in 2017, Amazon offers 125 million products across 31 different categories. Amazon has launched a number of products and services, such as Fulfilment By Amazon, Global Store, Prime, Shop Local and Amazon Launchpad, programs that help Australian businesses reach local customers.
