Amazon brings personalisation to pets

Amazon Australia is hoping to gather more information about its pet customers in order to personalise product recommendations.

Through Amazon’s Pet Profiles, which launched on Wednesday, the retailer asks pet owners a series of questions about their animal to gain a deeper insight into the wants and needs of the customer.

Customers are invited to create profiles for dogs, cats, birds, fish, small animals reptiles and horses, and are asked questions about their name, breed, age, gender, weight and preferences when it comes to food flavours and types of toys. They can also choose to upload a photo of the pet.

By handing over this valued information, customers can receive discounts on pet related items, a gift in their pet’s birthday month and targeted product suggestions.

Matt Furlong, Amazon Australia country manager said the profiles allow consumers to spoil their pets and access savings in doing so.

“Aussies love their pets so we are excited to give Australian pet owners another way to demonstrate the love that they have for them. With the launch of Pet Profiles, Amazon Australia is hoping to make it easier for pet owners to find product recommendations personalised to the needs and preferences of their pets,” he said.

Pet Supplies is a growing category for Amazon Australia, which stocks over 125 million items across the site.

The retailer said it is continuing to expand the existing range which offers hundreds of thousands of products from major brands including Hill’s Science Diet, Pedigree, Supercoat and Greenies.

The retail giant has enlisted the help of media personality Georgia Love to launch the profiles through an Instagram competition to find the pet and owner that look most alike.
