Accent Group commits $450,000 to mental health

Accent Group will donate $450,000 over a three-year period to mental health charities across Australian and New Zealand following the soaring mental health crisis that has worsened throughout the pandemic.

The business’ Stamp Your Feet initiative will see Accent partner with Headspace Australia and Youthline New Zealand, and make annual donations of $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.

And, it expects to add more organisations to the list over time.

“We are experiencing unprecedented levels of mental health issues due to pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Daniel Agostinelli, chief executive at Accent Group.

“With over 6,500 people employed at Accent Group through our head office and store network across Australia and New Zealand we aim to raise funds, positively influence attitudes, and support multiple charities through the Stamp Your Feet initiative.

“This is just the beginning of what we believe can have a significant impact.”

Headspace CEO Jason Trethowan said the charity is grateful to be working with the footwear retailer.

“This partnership will be vital to our work at headspace because it will help ensure young Australians can access the right mental health support for them, when they need it and how they want it,” Trethowan said.

“Young people need our support – and the support of their whole community – more than ever before.”

Accent Group isn’t the only retailer committing to help fund mental health research after the impact of the last few years: Kmart recently gave an extra $200,000 to its charity partners, The Reach Foundation and Smiling Mind, bringing the total figure it had donated in the past five years to over $1 million.
