NZ author launches online bookstore for children
Online bookstore Kiwi Kids Read Kiwi Books has launched, offering a destination for children and young readers throughout the county.
Founded by Wanaka author Kate Gordon, Kiwi Kids Read Kiwi Books features a selection of novels, non-fiction books, picture books, graphic novels, poetry and activity books written for children by New Zealand authors and illustrators.
The idea of an online bookstore for kids came as Gordon wanted to create a channel where Kiwi authors writing for children can sell their books and easily reach potential readers.
“I don’t want to take away from the fantastic work done by mainstream and independent bookstores around the country, many of whom offer significant support to New Zealand authors. But they have only limited shelf space and a whole world of books to choose from,” said Gordon.
Since its launch, the bookstore has received dozens of enquiries from prospective authors, recorded strong sales and new subscribers.
“The first couple of weeks have been really encouraging to see this level of support already as our followers on social media are growing by the day,” said Gordon.
The store will run a book giveaway next week as part of a special pre-Christmas promotion.
