Two in three Aussies would wait seven days for lower shipping costs

Well, over half of Australians are willing to wait more than seven days for the delivery of their online orders if it means they pay less for shipping, a recent study found.
Out of 1000 respondents, 64.6 per cent said they can wait longer than a week for their parcel if that would allow them to get it at a lower rate, according to Omnisend’s survey.
This supports Shippo’s previous research, which revealed that 75 per cent of online shoppers prioritise free over fast shipping.
“Many consumers expect delays during such high-demand periods as BFCM, so offering longer shipping times, paired with substantial discounts, can feel more authentic,” said Greg Zakowicz, senior e-commerce expert at Omnisend.
“Shoppers are conditioned to associate BFCM with great deals, not necessarily fast deliveries, and rushing to promise next-day shipping might diminish the perceived value of those discounts.”
Given the data, Omnisend urges retailers to be upfront about delivery times and not overcommit on speed.
It also recommends merchants offer tiered shipping options and use shipping time as a sales tool.
“Brands that overly emphasise next-day shipping may be missing an opportunity to attract discount-driven shoppers,” said Zakowicz.
“For most shoppers, affordability now takes precedence over speed.”
