The Iconic offering 10 minute drone delivery in Canberra

Online marketplace The Iconic has partnered with Alphabet’s drone delivery service Wing to offer Canberra-based customers delivery via drone.

Deliveries made via drone could arrive in as little as ten minutes, The Iconic said, by ordering through the Wing app.

Drone delivery is limited to a small number of households in the North Canberra suburbs of Crace, Palmerston, Franklin and, soon, Harrison.

“We are excited to be able to offer Canberra-based Wing customers the ability to shop The Iconic with a curated edit from Atmos&Here and Staple Superior available at launch,” The Iconic chief operating officer Anna Lee said.

“This opportunity is an incredible milestone in The Iconic’s ongoing journey to define the future of retail in Australia and New Zealand.”

While the selection of available products is currently slim, brands such as Calvin Klein, Camila & Marc, Bonds, Daniel Wellington, G-Shock, Happy Socks, Le Specs, Local Supply, Quay, Ray-Ban, and Timex will be added over the coming days.

The Iconic chief technology officer Zoe Ghani said the need for urgent delivery is something most people can relate to, and the marketplace is excited to offer customers a solution.

“At The Iconic, we learn, build and test features based on what our customers tell us,” Ghani said.

“For us, it’s incredibly exciting that, through our partnership with Wing, we will begin to understand exactly why and for what reasons our customers will use the drone delivery service, which will enable us to evolve what drone delivery will look like for fashion and retail in the future.”

Wing head of Australian operations Terrance Bouldin-Johnson said The Iconic was the first fashion retailer to use the service.
