Shein pledges to enhance product safety, quality standards

Shein says it has reinforced its product safety and quality standards to comply with applicable laws and regulations in relevant markets, encompassing the entire sales process.
Following the company’s Restricted Substances List (RSL) and the assignment of vendors’ product codes, Shein suppliers should meet the platform’s standards and policies, including the approved materials list for apparel and accessories, the company says.
“Product safety is not an empty promise made to our customers. It is a consistent and sustained effort by Shein, as a responsible global company,” said Chris Pan, Shein’s global head of compliance.
Through multiple aspects, including testing pass and negative feedback rate, the company will decide whether to take measures against violating vendors, such as product removal, point deduction, re-order restrictions, or partnership termination.
Shein, partnering with 15 respected testing agencies – including Bureau Veritas, Intertek, QIMA, SGS, and Tuv Sud – says it now implements additional compliance measures for product testing and verification, along with labels and certifications for the US and UK markets, as well as the local market.
Vendors are required to provide product documentation for various categories, including electronics, toys, children’s products, cosmetics, medical goods, light industry, personal protective equipment (PPE), and textiles.
“Shein is a long-term customer of SGS, and we have been working together since 2021 to strengthen the compliance control of Shein products,” said Joy Jia, deputy director of SGS in China.
Since its first launch, Shein has terminated its engagement with more than 540 sellers who did not meet compliance requirements.
