Ready-to-eat meals startup takes on pregnancy nutrition

A new online food-delivery service is offering meals nutritionally tailored for pregnant women, as well as those who are breastfeeding or trying to conceive.

Pregnancy Chef’s range of dietitian-approved pre-cooked meals – designed by Sydney’s popular Bitton cafe chain menu creator David Bitton – is in part a response to research that reveals that virtually no pregnant woman in Australia is taking the recommended daily intakes for the five food groups, even as 61 per cent of those surveyed feel their diet is not healthy.

“Working as a pre- and post-natal dietitian, I’ve seen first-hand how challenging it is for mums and mums-to-be to prepare nutritious meals,” said accredited practising dietitian and pregnancy chef dietitian Melanie McGrice. “Exhaustion, nausea and confusion about which foods are safe can make eating well during and after pregnancy difficult, and now with Covid-19 many women have limited social support which can exasperate this situation.

“Pregnancy Chef provides safe, nutritious meals so that these women can feel confident they’re getting the nutrients they need to support themselves, and their little ones.”

“The heart of Pregnancy Chef is in producing tasty, nutrient-dense meals to help women meet their nutritional needs for preconception, pregnancy and breastfeeding,” said co-founder Louise Eiseman. “Pregnancy Chef serves to make lives easier when so often mothers and mothers-to-be are time-poor or don’t feel up to cooking.”

Ready-to-heat Pregnancy Chef meals are now available for home delivery in Eastern Australia.
