Prime Day is underway in Australia
Amazon Australia has commenced its mid-year promotional event, scheduling a seven-day trading period.
Running until late evening on July 13, the event will feature international brands and domestic small businesses across standard retail categories, including consumer electronics, household appliances, and grocery lines.
For the current session, the company has integrated its budget tier, Amazon Haul, into the discount structure, applying automatic price reductions on lower-cost items.
Data from Amazon Australia suggests that Australian households are reducing spending on discretionary services, such as dining out, leisure travel, and entertainment outside the home during scheduled discount windows.
Amazon’s analysis indicates that 77 per cent of surveyed consumers report buying fewer total units while prioritising higher-quality items during market events.
Purchasing trends vary across demographic segments, with families with children outspending the national average by 36 per cent.
Within this group, 40 per cent of respondents expressed intent to acquire technological goods or personal electronics, while 30 per cent targeted kitchen hardware.
The seven-day event occurs alongside independent retail sector projections estimating total mid-year promotional spending across the Australian marketplace at $10.7 billion.
