Pinterest launches first-ever thrift shop

Prompted by a growing number of consumers searching for the term ‘vintage’, Pinterest has launched its first-ever thrift shop to capture the attention of Gen Z in particular.

Offering pre-owned fashion and lifestyle items online in a separate ideas collection, the online storefront will bring more than 30 global resale merchants.

The launch of Pinterest’s thrift store highlights the trend that “vintage haul” is gaining popularity among the younger generation and contributing to the growth of the circular fashion industry.

According to Pinterest’s trend report this year, search terms such as “dream thrift finds” increased 550 per cent from last year, while “vintage fall aesthetic” is up 1074 per cent and “men thrift outfits” surged 31 per cent.

“We know Gen Z is already using Pinterest to plan outfits and curate thrift wishlists,” said Madison Schill, Pinterest’s shopping lead.

“With Thrift Shop, we’re meeting them in the moment – just in time for back-to-school and fall shopping – by making the experience seamless, reliable, and fun.”

Earlier, Pinterest teamed with Ecommerce Equation to provide online-focused brands with training programs.
