Online retailer Carconnect enters administration

Carconnect, a Sydney-based car buying site, has entered voluntary administration.

Founded in 2012, Carconnect was one of the country’s first online car platforms. It claims to have sold more than 60,000 cars to date.

Jonathon Colbran and Brett Lord of RSM Australia Partners have been appointed as administrators. They have paused all business activity as they now look for a buyer.

“There is inherent value in the business via its unique platform delivery, customer database and dealer network,” Colbran said. “We believe these will be attractive to the market and we intend to undertake a sale of business process.”

Colbran added that the administrators’ priority is to “facilitate the best outcome” for Carconnect’s stakeholders; he welcomed any interested parties to contact RSM Australia.

“We fully appreciate that there will be impacts in the short term for people who have not yet taken delivery of their vehicles and for dealers who have not yet been paid,” he said.

“We will be working through these circumstances as a matter of urgency and hope to achieve a positive resolution.”

Customers who had paid deposits with a credit card are encouraged to speak to their bank immediately, as they may be eligible for a chargeback.

“We understand this will be very disappointing news, but we wanted to inform customers and stakeholders as soon as possible,” Colbran added.
