Mon Purse launches in the UK

Sydney-based mass customisation startup Mon Purse has expanded its footprint into the UK through the launch of two concessions with the luxury department store Selfridges.

Starting in November 2016, shoppers at Selfridges London and Manchester Trafford will be able to design their own handbags instore, using the Mon Purse 3D Bag Builder, and personalise them with monograms.

Mon Purse founder and CEO Lana Hopkins has hinted at the startup’s global aspirations in the past and says Selfridges is a good fit for the brand, which manufactures its handbags and accessories in Europe.

“We are really pleased to announce the launch of our concession within Selfridges, as it is a global leader in the world of retail. They take great pride in bringing the shopping experience to life; immersing and engaging every customer with their beautiful displays and theatrical atmosphere,” Hopkins said.

Mon Purse has recently improved its design tool to render leather options in a more realistic way on screen, and to make the design process more intuitive for customers on mobile devices.

It has also continued to refine its customisation offering since launching in 2015. Mon Purse now offers low-stakes personalisation options like monograms, in addition to its fully customisable handbags, to appeal to a broader range of consumers.

Contemporary accessories buyer Caroline Fielder believes this approach will resonate with the Selfridges’ customers.

“Personalisation is at the heart of our service offer and we embrace Lana Hopkins’ vision of combining innovation with the very best of craftsmanship. We are very excited to partner with Mon Purse, and be the first retailer to allow customers to monogram, customise and design a one-of-a-kind bag to create a truly personal product,” Fielder said.

Mon Purse is also set to launch into the US market this year with a strategic design collaboration with Instyle USA editor-in-chief, and fellow Australian, Laura Brown.

Brown will be designing a capsule range of bags that will become permanent customisable SKUs on the site.
